Convocation

Tomorrow's supposed to be my convocation but I'm not attending because I'm steadfast to my word. I am not going to graduate in the same hall I took my exams in that very sadly, looks like a badminton court. It is so pathetic. So instead I will go to a studio and take photos :)

Hehe!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to the most wunderful mother in the world :) All mothers (well would it be safe to say all) are selfless creatures of God's benevolent love. God bless them. lalala.

What it really is like to work in a hotel in Malaysia.

Truth to be told, I was inspired by a television show when I took up my course. I KNOW what a lame ass reason. Hahaha! And it was all fancy when we first entered college, brandishing our knife sets and kitchen gear and whatever not. But the moment I had my real taste of the industry during internship or industrial training as they called it, it looked ultra grim. So what is it really like working in a hotel in Malaysia??

1) The Environment
Hotels are like hypocrites. Up front, the massive lobby with the bellmen in their freshly pressed suits & the smiling receptionists standing behind the marbled counter & the hotel smelling lifts all seems very beautiful. But behind it all, in an area fondly known as "back of the house" is where all the dirty work gets done. From spitting into coffees or using a dirty spoon to make ice cream look pretty to using bare fingers to arrange a delicate platter of smoked salmon is where it all happens. And the kitchens are where its the most slippery, most smelly & most hot. The lab like cleanliness (with chemicals) only last for awhile in the morning but once time starts ticking, oh gosh, it all goes into overdrive and mayhem ensues.

2) The People
Yes, the bellman in his freshly pressed suit is actually a very corrupt man who makes a lot from unsuspecting guests tipping him and the woman smiling at you behind that reception desk is not at all that happy with you when you ask for an extension of your check out time. They're loathing you behind their backs and I dare say only a few are really genuine with their smiles. Otherwise its just a practiced repetitive thing we all tend to do, one that even I am guilty of (yes yes, I don't mean it when I smile and say good morning). But of course, I hear things in the European hotels are worse off.

So yes, if you're a worried parent who has stumbled upon my blog because you googled your child's prospects in the hospitality industry, you might want to tighten your grip around your poor kid's neck and give him a firm no. Its not really that glamorous. But I hear its the same in every other profession, doctors don't really mean it and engineers couldn't care less about how many people could cross a bridge before it broke into two. We're all just doing our jobs :D blindly.

Dear God

She's always been a little feisty, snapping and biting us whenever she felt like it and over time, we got used to the idea that she wasn't probably like the other one. But she was still nevertheless very lovable and we don't blame her at all for what has transpired, because she really was not brought up very well I think. As she goes under the knife tomorrow, I pray and hope all goes very well or this could very well be her last night. It pains me to think of the what ifs, but it would pain me more to never have the thought cross my mind if it does really happen *touches a lot of wood*. Dear God, please watch over her & keep her within reach always. Amen.

I think most people feel this way when their dogs go for surgery or something, cos its always so risky and you just don't know cos animals are a little bit more unpredictable. Their little hearts, livers, tummies, brains are not like humans, I doubt they have machines for all of that :( sigh!

Why I couldn't care less about the Bersih Rally?

To be honest, I'm not ignorant because I want to be. I just feel that any change at all to whatever we have at the moment (yes, corrupt officials, unnecessary buildings, people dying, bla bla bla) is just impossible. I mean, just look at Penang, how much different is it today than it was when BN was the ruling party?? :) We're just jumping out of the pan into the open fire (is there even an idiom like that) and its a lose-lose situation either way. I'm not even registered to vote because I know it makes no difference, although I hear so many people say that it does make a difference. But really? You think so?

I think if anything, people should just start working their way to deserting this pathetic excuse of a country. It makes no difference if you vote for A B or C, its just, ruined beyond repair. It'd probably take an eternity for any positive change at all.

And really all that trouble for the rally :( Im too lazy okay

Kong Hey Fatt Choy

Chinese New Year is always a time of joy especially with the family reunions which happen oh so very rarely thesdays with no thanks to our busy schedules and strange lives.

It will definitely be times like this that we remember the most, times that are numbered really and is something that is quickly disappearing from our way of life. Sad but true. We must therefore always try to continue this tradition. It is really vital.
